Itinerary M - Km 30 - In the Lands of Fruttuaria Abbey

This itinerary crosses Chivasso, revealing its central street characterized by the presence of porticos and the cathedral with its high Gothic pediment, and then heads for north-east, in lower Canavese. Here you will cross the lands that in the Middle Ages were managed by Fruttuaria Abbey. In Montanaro, of particular interest the complex of S. Nicolao and S. Marta churches and Madonna di Loreto church. In S. Benigno, Fruttaria Abbey is of great interest: it was founded in the Middle Ages by Gugliemo from Volpiano and it was rebuilt in the 18th century, preserving its imposing Romanesque-style bell tower. Developing in a mainly rural area, this itinerary is interesting also from an environmental point of view, for its wide woodlands and the gravelly shores along the stream Orco, for its agricultural landscape and the panoramas over the Alps.
