San Raffaele Cimena Strawberry
Definition
The main strawberry cultivars, produced and marketed on the spot, have experienced over the years a continuous turnover given to the introduction of new varieties deriving from crossbreeds with the preexisting ones. The new varieties are more resistant to pathogens and are characterized by a better productivity and taste. Therefore, the characteristic varieties of the 1950s/60s Suprise des malles, Red Gauntled, Senga/Sengana, Madame Moutot, etc. were replaced in the 1970s-early 1980s with Pocahontas, Gorella, Belrubt. The latter have been subsequently replaced with Cesena, Addie, Moneoye, up to the most recent Favette, Dana, Miss, Idea, Gea, etc., also bound to be replaced.
At the moment, the most interesting cultivar is Maya.
